December Birthday – Tips to making it special

Submitted by on December 19, 2011 – 7:00 amOne Comment

If you have a child with a December birthday, it is a challenge making his or her birthday special when the month is filled with so many other holiday festivities.

Here are a few tips that might help with your celebration!

#1   NEVER wrap your child’s presents in holiday wrapping paper; make sure it is BIRTHDAY theme wrapping.

#2   Schedule their birthday party with friends early in December even if your child’s actual birth date is later in the month.  A party early in the month will allow your child to have a fun party with friends and ensure that more of them will be able to attend since many families go out of town later in the month.

#3  Do not skimp on the birthday present giving by saying to yourself or to your child “Christmas is coming”. You probably have an annual budget for birthday presents for each child and this should be the case regardless of the birth date.

Since my son’s birthday is December 10th, we created another family policy that we do not decorate the Christmas tree until after his birthday.  (We may get the tree prior depending on time, but we don’t put it up and decorate it until the 11th).

Kids love their birthday and each year it should be a true celebration of them and for them regardless of the month they were born!

This is a really important article for parents, grandparents, other family members, and people whose kids may have friends with December birthdays. My birthday is December 24th (yes, I know that’s Christmas Eve, but it is also December 24th. I get to choose when to refer to it without the actual date!), and people constantly ask me if I get jipped. It’s not too offensive, but it does get annoying. No one asks my husband if he gets shafted out of Valentine’s Day gifts because his birthday is February 15th! But I make it clear that it was my parents that made the day one of the most awesome days of the year. I would always get like 1 present but it would be a doozy! No bikes or power cars or anything but something really great. Thankfully I’ve had friends and boyfriends maintain the spirit and essence of the “special day,” Now, if I could just get my husband of 10 years to treat it that way, I’d be elated. 🙂
