Planning a Halloween Party for Kids

by Lisa Greene

Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. I just love seeing the kids in their costumes and planning a fun, safe party the kids will remember! What kid wouldn’t want to invite their friends over for some pre- trick-or-treating fun! Here are some fun ideas to plan your Halloween party.

Activities and Party Games

  • Make a haunted house by hanging blankets, using boxes for crawling through, and creating some spooky lighting
  • Bean bag toss in a pumpkins mouth (use plywood and paint to make the pumpkin)
  • Cupcake decoration station
  • Costume parade
  • Monster mash – freeze dance game
  • Pin the tail on the black cat
  • Spooky scavenger hunt
  • Create a pumpkin face (cut pumpkins out of construction paper, then cut silly features for the kids to choose)

Healthy Halloween Snacks

Vampire Teeth
Cut an apple in half, cutting away from the core. Place halves flat side down. Then, cutting longways,  cut a triangle “mouth shape” out of the middle of each. Fill with peanut butter and use almond slivers as teeth.

Pizza Mummies
Cut English muffins in half and spread on pizza sauce. Using mozzarella string cheese, lay strips across to look like a mummy. Then add two slices of black olives for the eyes. Bake until cheese melts.

Spooky Smoothies
With this recipe, you pain the inside of your cup with melted chocolate or other edible paint then fill with your favorite smoothie. Try this recipe: Take 2 frozen, peeled bananas, cut in half and place in blender. Add 8 oz. of your favorite juice and 1-2 cups of frozen pineapple chunks and cherries. Blend until smooth. Add a cinnamon stick to stir the brew.

To make a spooky punch, simply freeze the smoothie in a large bowl, then pour ginger ale in the bowl before the guests arrive. This makes a healthy alternative to ice cream punch.
