7 Year Old Needs Bone Marrow Donor: Get Swabbed for Zach this Sunday, Dec. 11th
Can you imagine watching your 3-year-old son donate bone marrow to save his 6-year-old brother and then find out that the cancer has returned? That is what the Guillot family of Dallas is experiencing. They have been through this once before and are now searching for an unrelated bone marrow donor to save their son Zach, the 2010 Children’s Medical Center Holiday Parade Grand Marshall.
In February of 2010, Julie Guillot’s mother’s Intuition told her that the bruising on Zach’s shins and the intense headache were more than just a vitamin deficiency. After a blood test, the doctor confirmed her worst fear, Zach had Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Intense chemo therapy and a bone marrow transplant were Zach’s best defense to survive this horrid disease.
On June 3rd, 2010, Zach received a bone marrow transplant from his 3 year old brother and all hoped that he would be cured. On November 19, 2011 the Guillots received the devastating news that Zach had relapsed and the cancer was back. Now, an unrelated bone marrow donor is Zach’s best hope for survival. Zach’s family now needs a stranger to give their son a second chance at life.
“After a horrible initial shock, we are now game on! It was so great to see Zach as the 2010 Children’s Medical Center Holiday Parade Grand Marshall and I want to see him grow up, win an Oscar and maybe one day lead the fight against childhood cancer. I ask that you all register because a match can be found not only for Zach but for countless other patients.” says Zach’s mother, Julie Guillot. Zach’s friends and family are organizing a Bone Marrow Donor Drive to find a life saving match for Zach and others fighting blood cancer.
