A Wrinkle in Time Opens Friday at Dallas Children’s Theater

A Wrinkle in Time - Dallas Children's Theater

A Wrinkle in Time March 22 – April 14

An extraordinary, extraterrestrial adventure across space and time! Join Dallas Children’s Theater (DCT) for A Wrinkle in Time in the Regional Premiere of this new, highly theatrical adaptation, playing March 22 – April 14, 2013 at DCT’s Rosewood Center for Family Arts.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this Newbery Medal winning, sci-fi classic by Madeleine L’Engle, the play, A Wrinkle in Time, introduces a whole new generation to this unforgettable story. Sister Meg, her little brother Charles, and Calvin – the most popular boy in school – are on a dangerous mission to rescue Meg’s father from another planet, and save the universe. “Like all the beloved and best known fantasy tales, this story captures the age old struggle between good and evil, the triumph of Love, and the value of diversity and individuality,” says DCT’s Associate Artistic Director and director of the play, Artie Olaisen. He continues, “John Glore’s new adaptation is one of the hottest tickets among theaters for youth and family audiences across the country this season.”

A groundbreaking young adult novel published in 1962, A Wrinkle in Time was revolutionary in its depiction of a young female heroine struggling with her sense of self and conformity.  Meg Murry, the story’s lead character, is arguably the first female science-fiction heroine that drew young girls to the genre.  Similar to the forward thinking style of Jules Verne’s literary work, and Gene Rodenberry’s television series Star Trek, A Wrinkle in Time embraces a diverse universe, full of strange, intelligent, and benevolent creatures, along with scientific ideas of space, time, and dimensional travel.

The play’s epic storytelling style inspires visually striking production design.  Making abstract worlds and mathematic formulas a cohesive reality is set designer Jeff Franks in his DCT debut.  Franks’ video creations complimented by Linda Blase’s celestial lighting design provide beautiful authenticity to the alien theories and philosophy put forth by L’Engle’s fascinating and unearthly characters.

Experience this wildly imaginative, fantastical, scientific saga live on-stage!  Enjoyed by ages 7 and up.
