Bye Bye Bake Sales: Hello a Revolution in School Fundraising

As a long-time PTA volunteer and parent who believes in supporting our schools, it’s always great to see what new fundraising opportunities exist. You can only buy so much cookie dough and wrapping paper. I received this press release recently and thought it was a great idea worth pursing for back to school ideas. Given the popularity of Groupon and Living Social, Schoola seems like a great alternative!

Schoola Gives Education Supporters a Smart, Simple, Speedy Way to Raise Money Online ~

Savvy Source announces the national launch of its innovative new school fundraising program, Schoola. Think of it like a Groupon-type program for education; giving moms, dads, PTAs and PTOs a new platform to partner with local businesses and raise money.

Education funding is in crisis mode as public schools are receiving less state funding. The cuts have had significant consequences. *

  • 37 states are providing less funding per student to local school districts than they provided last year.
  • 30 states are providing less than they did four years ago.  17 states have cut per-student funding by more than 10 percent from pre-recession levels.
  • Four states— South Carolina, Arizona, California, and Hawaii — each have reduced per student funding to K-12 schools by more than 20 percent.

Stacey Boyd, CEO and Founder of Savvy Source for Parents said, “At a time when schools are struggling with funding, shutting down, and battling major budget cuts, Schoola provides a fundraising fix. The beauty of the program is it’s a win-win for local businesses too.”

Here’s how Schoola works:
School supporters work with great merchants in their community to create a deal everyone will love. Schoola makes it easy. You can even partner with other schools in the community to extend the reach of the fundraiser.

Schoola hosts and facilitates the fundraiser online, giving supporters the tools to share it with parents and the community. Schoola handles the purchases, fulfillment, and sending checks to merchants and schools.
