After volunteering in the school cafeteria, I would have to agree that it’s often a toss up between the cafeteria food and what parents or the child packed themselves for lunch. Yes, kids can throw food away but most teachers in elementary school try to get them to eat some of everything. The biggest problem was that the kids don’t have enough time to eat! If they spend time chatting with friends or are slow eaters, they don’t get to finish their lunch. Kids need a break and they need healthy food!

Plano, Texas – September, 20 2011 – On Saturday, September 17, Dr. Minette Riordan, founder of North Texas Kids magazine was awarded the Libby Linebarger Award by the Texas Professional Home Child Care Association at their annual state conference. This award was named after State Representative Libby Linebarger who worked to bring child care issues before the state legislature in the early 90\’s. They now give this award in her honor to someone \”for the outstanding work and dedication that has been given to benefit the safety and well-being of children across Texas.\”
