Try this cheesy, hot Buffalo Chicken Dip at your next party.

I refuse to believe that I am an “a-typical woman” because I love watching football. I know that there are lots of woman out there that are with me on this and are a sports fan thru and thru. With that said January means College Bowl games and NFL playoffs. There is nothing better than a gathering with friends and/or family to watch a good game of football on a big screen TV. But, no football party is complete without some super yummy snacks. This cheesy buffalo chicken dip is one of my go-to appetizers for the football season.

Here’s what you need:

3 cups (24 oz) Cooked and shredded chicken

(*use rotisserie or canned chicken to save time)

8 oz cream cheese

8 oz ranch dressing

1 ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

8 oz Buffalo Wing Sauce/Hot Sauce (I used Franks Hot Sauce)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Mix well-softened cream cheese, ranch dressing, hot sauce and 1 cup of the shredded cheese until well blended. (I used my handheld mixer on low for about 1 minute)
  • Fold in chicken to this mixture
  • Pour into 8×8 square pan
  • Sprinkle with remaining ½ cup of cheese
  • Bake for 30 minutes, until hot and bubbly

I made mine with texas pete hot sauce and 20 oz of canned chicken and it came out way to hot. what can I add to cool it down? More chicken? cream cheese?

    • I would use “less” hot sauce next time, but sure I bet more cream cheese and more dressing would cool it down some.

Make sure you are using wing sauce and not regular hot sauce. I’ve used Frank’s Red Hot Wing Sauce and Texas Pete Wing Sauce. Regular Texas Pete Hot Sauce does not work well with this recipe. If the regular wing sauce is too hot, you can also add honey to sweeten and “cool” it down a bit.

What other sauce can I use ? BBQ ?

You should be able to use a different type of sauce. Just mix a small portion and try it to see if you like it then make a bigger batch.

Use a mild wing sauce and Blue Cheese crumbles.

I add 3T butter 1/4 cup honey to my hot sauce. I melt all that together and that takes the hot bite out of the sauce. I think it makes the dish better i call mine hot honey chicken dip. Just a thought
