Jazz in the Atrium: The James Gilyard Ensemble

James Gilyard, jazz bassist, composer, and producer, leads this ensemble that includes Ms. Simone Rogers, a new voice on the local jazz scene. Gilyard has performed with Kenny Burrell, James Clay, Red Garland, Barney Kessell, Billy Hart, and Roseanne Vitro, to name a few.

Artist Talk: Mark Manders
January 12, 2012; 7:30 p.m.
Join Dr. Jeffrey Grove, the DMA’s Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art for a discussion of Mark Manders’s work. The Museum will present the first major North American exhibition of work by the acclaimed Dutch artist, which features a body of new sculptures and works on paper. Manders creates mysterious and uncanny sculptural tableaux, inviting the viewer to “enter the world of objects and matter and find poetry in it . . . and to know how poorly we normally see our daily life.”

Join us for a series of screenings of German films, ranging in subject and time period but commonly dealing with cultural and societal life in Germany. Ivan Eidt, University of Dallas Modern Languages and Literatures Professor and Dallas Goethe Center film programmer, will lead the audience in a discussion of the film after each screening.
The Congress Dances (Der Kongress Tanzt)
During the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the city is agog with excitement. After Napoleon’s defeat, statesmen and princes from all over Europe have gathered for a congress. Chaired by the Austrian foreign minister Metternich, the assembly will decide upon the new political order in Europe. A lowly glove maker girl is caught in a romantic affair with the Russian tsar while Metternich weaves his political intrigues in the background.
