Thursday Night Live 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
With a distinct sound and style, Corner Pocket is quickly gaining recognition in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Backed by a star-studded rhythm section featuring the legendary bassist Lynn Seaton, Corner Pocket’s hard swinging rhythm is enough to get anyone out of their seats and on to the dance floor. The Eighth Annual Michael L. Rosenberg Lecture: Louis Léopold Boilly: Between Genre and Portraiture
November 3, 2011; 7:30 p.m.
Focusing on Louis Léopold Boilly’s scene of a woman showing off her portrait in a fashionable interior, this program will explore the richly imaginative interchange between genre painting and portraiture in the 18th century. Join distinguished scholar Dr. Susan L. Siegfried, Denise Riley Professor of the History of Art and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan, as she describes how the easy exchanges between the real and the fantasy elements in late 18th-century French genre scenes helped patrons and viewers participate in the scenes imaginatively. Arts & Letters Live – Special Event: A Conversation with Secretaries of State James A. Baker III and Condoleezza Rice
Presented in partnership with the World Affairs Council

Secretary Baker held senior government positions under three United States presidents. He served as the nation’s 61st secretary of state from January 1989 through August 1992 under President George H. W. Bush. During his tenure at the State Department, he traveled to ninety foreign countries as the United States confronted the unparalleled challenges and opportunities of the post-Cold War era. Baker is currently a senior partner in the law firm of Baker Botts L.L.P. He is honorary chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University and sits on the board of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Condoleezza Rice is currently a professor of political economy in the Graduate School of Business, the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson senior fellow on public policy at the Hoover Institution, and a professor of political science at Stanford University. She is also a founding partner of The Rice Hadley Group. Under President George W. Bush, Rice served as the 66th secretary of state of the United States. She was the second woman and first African American woman to hold the post. She also served as President George W. Bush’s national security advisor. Rice’s recently released book, No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington, tells the behind-the-scenes story of her eight years in the White House.

Roger Boykin, nationally recognized multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and soloist, performs with his group. Boykin, a legend on the Dallas jazz scene, has toured with such superstars as Leon Spencer, David “Fathead” Newman, and Isaac Hayes. Free with general admission.
Artistic Encounters: Think Creatively!: Inquisitive Minds—Questions
November 10, 2011; 6:30 pm–8:30 p.m.
Artists, scientists, and inventors use creative thinking tools—how about you? Give your creativity a boost and discover the power to transform your imagination into a work of art. Join creativity expert Magdalena Grohman, Ph.D. for this workshop where we practice using creative thinking tools and then get the chance to put our new skills to use with an art project. Jean Paul Gaultier: Iconoclasm and Influence

Dr. Caroline Weber, associate professor of French at Columbia University and author of Queen of Fashion: What Marie-Antoinette Wore to the Revolution, will look at how Jean Paul Gaultier and other designers use the corset and other Marie-Antoinette sartorial elements in their designs. Participants will exercise problem-solving skills through collaborative and playful exploration of the Museum’s collection with artist Tom Russotti and education staff.
