Maestro Market: New Business Connects Moms with Experts

MaestroMarket.com

In my inbox this morning was a press release about MaestroMarket.com, a new venture by Ian Shea. I was instantly intrigued by the concept of easily being able to connect with experts. As someone who is a parent coach and often hires coaches to help me improve different areas of my own life from nutrition and fitness to growing my business, I was excited to find a site that pulls a variety of experts together in one place.

Maestro Market, a unique and first of its kind platform that connects people with their ideal experts, or even heroes, today announced its official launch.  The new platform facilitates a variety of engagements (e.g., in person, using Skype, via telephone, etc.) between talented experts and anyone interested in learning a skill, solving a problem, getting inspired, gifting an experience or indulging a desire.  The experts span numerous categories including parenting, writing, women in business, social media, blogging, entrepreneurship and many more.  The company is also announcing initial partnerships that will help to drive both supply of and demand for its growing list of maestros.

“Our book group was so thrilled for the opportunity to Skype with Meg Wolitzer about the latest book of hers that we read together, The Uncoupling,” said Jennifer Von Wahlde of the Connecticut Book Club. “Meg is a captivating writer and an even more engaging conversationalist. During our Skype chat, not only was Meg open to answering all of our questions, but also she questioned us and made us feel like we were getting to know a new friend better. The entire experience is well worth repeating!”

The site itself is very user-friendly, easy to navigate and easy to read. I was impressed with how simple it is to search and find experts in topics I am interested in. The site doesn’t bury you with too much information or tease you with too little.

I asked Ian Shea a few questions about why he created Maestro Market and what some of his goals are for 2013. You can also take a peak at some of the most popular experts on their website.

What inspired you to create Masetro Market?

Ian Shea, founder and CEO of Maestro Market, conceived of this platform while seated next to Scot Schmidt, a famous extreme skier, at a banquet dinner. An avid skier himself, Ian was thrilled at this rare opportunity, even as it occurred to him that such experiences don’t need to be rare at all. And so, the inspiration for Maestro Market was formed.

Ian realized that there are maestros in just about every field and that many people already know who their maestros are or what affinity they are drawn to and immediately thought of a number of scenarios where maestros come into play. For, example, people often read the last page of a book and think, “I am dying to talk to the author!” Many want to improve their performance in a sport by asking questions of the best in the game. Some are intrigued by a painting or photograph, and want to pick the brain of the person who made it. These are the situations that inspired Ian to dig deeper and create a platform that would allow people to find and connect with influential, exceptionally skilled people in unique and personalized ways.

How do you see Maestro Market serving moms in 2013?

Today we launched the service with Mom’s Choice Awards, ·a US-based company with global reach that has among its honorees an esteemed panel of judges who are experts in the areas of education, family planning, parenting, child rearing and families with children of exceptional or special needs. The organization will have a branded partner page on MaestroMarket.com and partner tools on their site to help make matches directly within their community, which will greatly contribute to the list of available experts in the parenting category and beyond. As we move into 2013 our team of editors and curators will be working with even more partners in the parenting category to help build out our database of parenting experts.

Who are some of your most popular experts?

The following are some of our most popular experts, which we also think will make unique gifts this holiday season:

What impact are you seeing so far with Maestro Market?

Maestro Market has created a new way for consumers to connect with their ideal experts, or even heroes, which was not available before.  Now people can find experts in a number of categories to help them learn a skill, solve a problem, get inspired, gift an experience or indulge a desire.  For our experts we have created a new way for them to monetize their talents/expertise in a way that was not available before — another first for represented in the launch of Maestro Market.  Our partners are benefiting as well too.  We are opening up new avenues for our partners to promote their experts and develop deeper engagements with consumers around their brand.

Who is Ian Shea?

Ian is the founder and CEO of Maestro Market, and it is both his pleasures in meeting new people, and in lifelong learning, that forms the backbone of the site. Ian’s background in finance and management helped him build the site, and its team. Ian began his career as an investment banker at Patricof & Co., and then was general manager at Replay TV, which he negotiated through two sales and a bankruptcy to a successful return to profitability and eventual sale to DirecTV. He has MBAs from Columbia and Berkeley, and did his undergraduate work at Cornell. Originally from Rye, NY, Ian is also a proud Eagle Scout and a Rotary Youth Scholarship recipient. He says he can start a fire in the woods without matches. Verification of this claim remains pending.
