Local Publisher Receives Libby Linebarger Award for Making an Impact on Home Child Care Statewide

Plano, Texas – September, 20 2011 – On Saturday, September 17, Dr. Minette Riordan, founder of North Texas Kids magazine was awarded the Libby Linebarger Award by the Texas Professional Home Child Care Association at their annual state conference. This award was named after State Representative Libby Linebarger who worked to bring child care issues before the state legislature in the early 90\’s. They now give this award in her honor to someone \”for the outstanding work and dedication that has been given to benefit the safety and well-being of children across Texas.\”

Dr. Minette Riordan has donated her time to conduct workshops and lectures for various chapters of TPHCCA around the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex for the past 4 years and provided home child care providers with \”clock hours\” towards their continuing education credits. Her passion is ensuring that parents and caregivers have the education and resources they need to raise happy healthy children and public speaking is one way that she does this. Ronda Smith, who nominated Dr. Riordan and is President of the Garland Chapter of TPHCCA, was thrilled that the committee selected Dr. Riordan. \”I am so excited to present this award to Dr. Riordan. She is always so generous with her time and our group always appreciates the value she brings in every talk. I could not think of a better recipient of this award. Her magazine has been a great resource for me and for other child care providers in North Texas.\”

Dr. Riordan says she was honored to be the recipient of the Libby Linebarger award. \”I love working with this group and always donate my time to speak with them. They are the ones who are passionate about raising children and also about educating themselves to be better caregivers. I also spoke at their conference on Friday and Saturday and am delighted to have met home child care providers from around the state. Our children are in good hands! Many thanks to them for the award but even bigger thanks to the amazing work and love these women give to the children in their care.\”
