I had the good fortune to start my Sunday morning off by interviewing Amy Wilson, author and star of the off-Broadway hit Mother Load. She is also the author of the book: When Did I Get Like This – The Screamer, The Worrier, The Dinosaur-Chicken-Nugget-Buyer and Other Mothers I Swore I’d Never Be. Amy is a mom of three, actress and great author. Her book definitely showcases all of her talents with humor and touching honesty. We can all identify with scenarios like this one from her book:
“I flutter, hover and multitask, but the perfectly trachea-sized Legos multiply across the floor of the foyer while I am not looking, and Maggie finds an orange marker and colors on the new couch, and then my husband David walks in from work and dumps out the contents of his pockets onto the hall table: seventeen coins, a partially sucked Halls in a tissue, fifty-seven receipts, and a toothpick, which Seamus will immediately commandeer as a tiny sword for his microscopic Playmobil knight.”
Or read about the battle over the raisin bagel she has with her son Connor… you will have to listen to the interview to learn more and make sure to purchase a copy of her book. I did and it is hysterical and oh so real!
In our interview, Amy talks about her own childhood as one of 6, trying to find time for herself and her relationship with her husband and her best tips on overcoming her perfectionist tendencies and mommy guilt! As Amy says in her book, her kids seem the most happy when she is the most “half-assed,” all they really want is time with her and chicken nuggets for dinner three nights a week.
