Red Balloon Run and Relay Race in Plano this Saturday (Children’s Medical Center)
Celebrating its second year, Children’s Medical Center’s (www.childrens.com) Red Balloon Run & Relay takes off this Saturday, Oct. 22 from 8am – 1pm at Children’s Medical Center at Legacy (7601 Preston Road, Plano).
Already surpassing last year’s numbers, this year’s event in Plano has more than 200 teams signed up and more than $293,288 in donations. The event provides vital financial support to Children’s, and 100 percent of funds raised by participants benefit patients at the hospital.
Appealing to athletes of any age, the Red Balloon Run & Relay is divided into three events:
• 9:30 a.m. — 20K relay for adult teams of two to four people
• 9:40 a.m. — 5K fun run and walk
• 10:30 a.m. — 1K kids fun run and walk
The courses will be completely coned off and traffic free with help from the Plano Police Department ensuring a safe experience for all. (View course map)
For those who have not yet signed up, registration tables will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Same-day registration fees are $40 for adults, $20 for children under 12 and free for children under 5. Chip timing will also be available for a $5 fee. All participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 or make a donation to Children’s Medical Center. Donations can be made at the event or online.
Food coupons will also be available for purchase throughout the day.
