September 21st is World Peace Day

International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21st. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

Peace Day is a reminder to focus on peace and has grown into a global movement. This year’s theme is Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.

Each year millions of people around the world participate in Peace Day either privately, as part of a group and/or as a participant in an event or program. There are many different ways that you an participate whether it’s meditating, attending a peace themed workshop, volunteering, etc.

One of the traditions established for Peace Day is the “Minute of Silence”. Individuals, organizations, communities and nations are invited to participate in this  “Peace Wave” by observing a minute of silence at 12 noon in all time zones around the world.
