Review of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle review - Mina Frannea - North Texas Kids Magazine

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is hilarious, with lots of action and adventure. While in detention, four teens discover an old video game console from the 80’s and are sucked into the world of Jumanji. Each teen becomes the avatar they choose in the live action game world, a persona who is totally the opposite of who they are in real life. These avatars’ reactions to Jumanji’s larger-than-life adventures create a story that will keep you laughing out loud and entertained throughout the film.

Nerdy Spencer becomes the muscular Dr. Smolder (Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson) and his childhood friend, football jock Fridge, takes on the persona of the diminutive, but very smart Mouse Fingran, played by Kevin Hart. Johnson and Hart have great chemistry on screen and their characters will ignite your humor. The shy, awkward teen Martha turns into hot girl (Karen Gillan) who can take on a bunch of bad guys with her dance-fighting skills. And, Jack Black shines as a middle-aged guy who, in real life, is a popular, albeit self-absorbed teen girl.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is one you don’t want to miss. My two 14-year-olds loved it! The movie is rated PG-13 for some language and adult inferences; not for young kids. In theaters Wednesday, December 20th. Check website for local viewings.
