Did you know?

For thirty years Riders In the Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, reviving and revitalizing the genre. And while remaining true to the integrity of Western music, they have themselves become modern-day icons by branding the genre with their own legendary wacky humor and way-out Western wit, and all along encouraging buckaroos and buckarettes to live life “The Cowboy Way!”

In addition to being inducted into the Grand Ol’ Opry, Riders are in the Western Music Association’s Hall of Fame, the Country Music Foundation’s Walkway of Stars, and the Walk of Western Stars along with Gene, Roy, John Wayne and other cowboy legends. No less important than their two Grammy wins, Riders have been the Western Music Association’s “Entertainers Of the Year” six times, and won “Traditional Group of the Year” and “Traditional Album of the Year” multiple times. The Academy of Western Artists has named them “Western Music Group of the Year” twice in 5 years, and the National  Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum has bestowed Riders with their Wrangler Award statuette three times. It comes as no surprise then that Billboard magazine’s Jim Bessman counts them as one of “the most significant acts in the history of American music.” Visit the Riders in the Sky website.

I grew up next to my grandfather listening to Gene Autry and watching the Grand Ole Opry. I would love to get a chance to share those memories with my kids and this would be a perfect opportunity. Not to mention they all love Woody’s Round Up from Toy Story. Thanks so much!!!

My daughter has seen the commercials for this on pbs and wants to go.. but the ticket prices are well… high. I am dissapointed that this children oriented event seems to be so overpriced. For a family of four, even if both kids are 8 and under will start with $70 just for admittance. Then there’s parking downtown, food, and I’m guessing the pony rides etc are not free. There is a similar event in allen each year where the activities are free and separate from the concert, which makes more sense to me. I hope the event promoters will consider this approach for next time.

My husband is always going and doing things the kids and I like. I would love to go as a family and do something he would love. This reminds me of when we were dating and he would pickle me up and he would be listening to western swing or Red Stegall telling a good story. Still makes my heart skip a beat just thinking about it.
