Cutest Snowman Craft Ever!
I admit, I love snowmen and I have a growing collection. I try to add one to my collection every year and am always on the lookout for the different and unique snowmen. I also love picking up holiday magazines at the grocery store and flipping through. I rarely make anything I find but I love to look and get ideas. This year was different. I picked up a copy of Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Holiday Craft magazine. As soon as I saw their “Snow Pal” craft, I knew I had to make one.
Not only do I think these snowmen are adorable, but they were very easy to make and a great craft for kids. I also think they would make an excellent teacher gift and a cute centerpiece for a table. Oodles of ideas for using these cute snow pals.
Snowman Craft Instructions
What you need:
- One midcalf or knee-high tube sock
- Rubber Bands
- Rice (several pounds of rice if you are going to make several snowmen)
- Pair of decorative ankle socks
- Twine or ribbon
- Craft glue
- Orange Felt
- Small beads or buttons for eyes and decorations
- Straight pins
Instructions
1. Make the body. Cut off and discard foot portion of white tube sock. We started with knee-high socks and cut them in varying sizes to make different sized snowmen. Turn the sock inside out. Wrap a rubber band tightly around the bottom of the sock (where foot portion was). Turn the sock right side out so the rubber band is inside the sock.
2. Fill the sock with rice, pushing it down into sock as you fill. Fill sock until it stretches and is plump. Wrap a rubber band around the open end.
Dress the snowman
- Cut off heel and toe from one decorative ankle sock. Cut off heel of other ankle sock. Pull the sock without the heel and toe over the snowman and center it for a sweater.
- Squeeze the snowman body at the lower edge of sweater, pushing rice down to create a solid base. Tie a piece of twine or ribbon around the bottom of the sweater. Repeat, squeezing snowman and tying with twine at the top of the sweater if desired.
- Place the sock without the heel on top of the snowman for a hat. Tie a bow around the toe end of the sock. Glue a button or other embellishment to the hat if desired. We used felt flowers and a decorate straight pin with a pearl head on ours.
- Use small buttons or beads to make eyes and a mouth. Glue them on. We used straight pins to hold them in place along.
- Cut a carrot nose from the orange felt and glue it to the face.
These snowmen are definitely squishy. Carry them carefully as the rice tends to reform. This makes them fun for kids to play with, too, so make sure the rubber bands are on tightly. My daughter made the little one out a shorter piece of sock, saying that we needed a whole snow family, not just one or two!
Happy holidays!
So stinkin’ cute . LOVE Love Love these!!
