Texas Tax-Free Weekend is August 7–9, 2026

Back-to-school shopping season is here, and the 2026 Texas Sales Tax Holiday is a great opportunity for families to save.

From Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9, 2026, shoppers can purchase qualifying clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks priced under $100 per item without paying state or local sales tax.

The exemption applies to eligible purchases made:
• In stores
• Online
• By telephone
• By mail

Qualifying layaway purchases are also eligible for the tax exemption under the Texas Comptroller’s guidelines.

School Supplies

Qualifying school supplies under $100 include:

  • Binders
  • Book bags
  • Calculators
  • Cellophane tape
  • Compasses
  • Blackboard chalk
  • Crayons
  • Composition books
  • Erasers
  • Folders; expandable, pocket, plastic, and manila
  • Glue, paste and paste sticks
  • Highlighters
  • Index cards
  • Index card boxes
  • Legal pads
  • Lunch boxes
  • Markers, including dry erase markers
  • Notebooks and writing tablets
  • Paper; loose leaf ruled notebook paper, copy paper, graph paper, tracing paper, manila paper, colored paper, poster board, and construction paper
  • Pencil boxes and other school supply boxes
  • Pencil sharpeners, Pencils, Pens,
  • Protractors, Rulers and Scissors
