How to Organize Your Refrigerator for Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, your fridge is about to be filled with leftovers galore and become very cluttered. Here are a few tips to get the most out of your refrigerator space.

1.  Use clear acrylic storage containers so you can see the food contents from all sides, even at the back of the fridge. Stores like Home Goods, Walmart, At Home, and The Container Store all have their own brands, so decide based on need and budget. These storage containers come in many sizes, so plan your leftovers layout and measure the shelf space before you buy.

2.  Add a shelf to subdivide your current shelves. Square metal shelves are great for allowing you a few more stacking options. Put a storage bin with eggs under the shelf and another bin with snacks on top. This tip helps you use every inch of your refrigerator.

3.  Keeping your refrigerator drawers free of liquid spills and spoiled fruit or vegetable stains by laying down paper towels in the bottom of each of your drawers. When they get dirty just replace them, instead of having to pull the drawer out and wash it each time. If you prefer something reusable, try these drawer liners (http://www.containerstore.com/s/kitchen/refrigerator-freezer/refrigerator-shelf-bin-liner/12d?productId=10031120)

4.  Label your leftovers. Yes, a simple tip, but it saves money and time if everyone in the household knows what is available for post holiday meals. I love these reusable and dishwasher safe labels.

5.  Baking soda is a must in any fridge. It neutralizes odors for months and is very inexpensive. Have a box in the freezer too, plus a box you use just for baking.

6.  I love this Nest Food Storage Container Set for leftovers. The bottom of each container has a colored dot that tells you which color lid goes with it. An even better feature is the ability to nest the containers for compact storage.

If you follow some of these practical suggestions, you will get the most out of the space in your fridge and enjoy the dishes from your holiday feast for days after Thanksgiving.
