4 Simple Ways to Keep Dad Healthy for A Long Time

Involve the whole family in creating a healthy lifestyle

1. Exercise is very important and a little goes a long way.

The best and easiest is walking. The minimum is thirty minutes three times a week. That does not sound like much but how many men even do that much? The advantage of a thirty minute walk is that helps prevent heart diseases, arthritis and some cancers such as prostate and colon.

2. Hydration is critical.

Drinking enough water is important to promoting good health. The rule of thumb is one half ounce of water for every pound of body weight. Calculate it by dividing your weight in half and that is the number of ounces of water to drink each day. One way of pleasantly drinking enough water is to drink iced green tea. Green tea has a number of antioxidants which are especially beneficial to good health. Place two quarts of water in a pot on the stove. Just before it begins to boil turn off the heat and add 4 bags of green tea. After 10 minutes remove bags and place in a storage container. You have enough tea for the next two days. For garnish squeeze lemon and Stevia for sweetener to each glass and enjoy. It’s very refreshing. Stevia is a natural sweetener without sugar or toxic effects.

3.Vegetables are extremely important for health and unfortunately many men don’t eat enough of them.

They should be the main part of our diet. We need a rainbow diet, meaning plenty of bright colored vegetables. It is actually the colors that make them so good for us. A salad a day is good. Use dark green lettuce or spinach, add any color peppers: red, orange or yellow. These are very tasty, add a mild flavor and are high in antioxidants. Add raw nuts such as pecans or walnuts. Avoid use of
processed foods on a fresh salad such as deli meats or croutons. Now top off your master piece with a low-calorie dressing or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

4. Excessive stress can be hazardous to one’s health.

To help minimize stress for Dad, make sure he has some quiet time. It’s good to have 15-30 minutes all to one’s self everyday, to quiet the mind and rejuvenate the spirit.

Also encourage dad to leave 15 minutes early to work or appointments. This way he can stay within the speed limits while driving and keep his blood pressure down if there is a delay in traffic. Going five to fifteen miles an hour over the speed limit is a high pressure way to live and is also dangerous.

The above are simple, but powerful tips that can make a profound difference in your Dad’s health. We not only want him to have a “ long life span, but also a long healthy life span” so he can enjoy his life and you can enjoy him during that time.
