Children’s Medical Center adds new Locations to serve more local children

New MyChildren’s offices to give more patients critical access to a “medical home”

MyChildren’s, a network of pediatric primary care offices affiliated with nationally renowned Children’s Medical Center Dallas (www.childrens.com), is expanding by opening three new practices this summer in areas where there is a high demand for healthcare. Clinics are located in neighborhoods where few options exist for families who depend on Medicaid and the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program. The clinics provide a critical “medical home” for thousands of children, leading to better, earlier care.

The new sites include two new offices in Oak Cliff and East Plano, which are now seeing patients, and a third in Lake Highlands opening next week.

Another new MyChildren’s office in Lake Highlands – located at Town Creek, 8330 Abrams, Suite 112 in Dallas – will open July 16.

MyChildren’s selected office locations based on patient demographics; access to pediatric primary care services; and the top ZIP codes where families are using the Children’s Medical Center Emergency Department for primary care.

“MyChildren’s will provide thousands of underserved children in Dallas County greater access to much-needed primary care medical homes,” said Trent Smith, president of MyChildren’s and senior vice president of Children’s Medical Center.

“Many families resort to the emergency department at Children’s for low-acuity conditions such as runny noses, ear infections or sore throats. These conditions are really better taken care of in the pediatrician’s office,” said Dr. Ray Tsai, medical director of MyChildren’s. “By expanding our MyChildren’s locations, we will better manage these populations of patients, and we will provide the right care at the right place at the right time for thousands of kids across North Texas.”

Six MyChildren’s locations are already operating throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in Carrollton, Cedar Hill, Dallas, Grapevine, McKinney and Plano.

MyChildren’s specializes in health care for children ranging from newborns to age 18. The clinics offer services such as:

  • Newborn care
  • Immunizations
  • Well-child exams
  • Sports physicals
  • School physicals
  • Asthma management
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Minor emergency treatment

With offices staffed by highly trained nurses and physicians who are board-certified in pediatrics, MyChildren’s pediatric care offices are dedicated to providing patients with quality care Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

MyChildren’s locations take both Medicaid and commercially insured patients. However, in many areas, Tsai said, commercially insured patients have numerous options, while Medicaid patients often do not. Instead of those patients without options coming to our emergency department, Children’s is providing the primary care they desperately need in their own back yards.

My son and I are great fans of the circus. I enjoy seeing the excitement in his eyes.
