Review of Harry Potter: The Exhibition in Dallas
My family and I had a fun time last weekend at Harry Potter: The Exhibition. It was opening night and we were invited to a VIP Party and Reception. The evening started with cocktails and some light bites. We were also given some wristbands which would be used later during the self-guided museum tour.

We decided to take a quick look at the gift store before starting our exhibition tour. The store had a wonderful variety of Harry Potter themed merchandise ranging from coasters and mugs, jewelry and journals, to plush animals, ties, t-shirts and hoodies – available for your favorite Hogwarts House – and much more!
After our gift store visit, we first stopped at the wall that leads to Platform 9 3/4 (great photo op!) and then headed inside the exhibit where we got to create personalized profiles using our wristbands (later used to earn points for your house). We then entered a big screen area where we “boarded the train” to Hogwarts.

Our adventure consisted of viewing wonderful exhibits with amazing costumes and displays that were a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed walking down the hallway of Portraits, choosing our wands, and creating potions for points as well as other interactive areas like a larger-than-life game of basketball Quiddich, casting our Patronus, travelling via Portkey, and the Battle of Hogwarts (lots of fun!).

The Herbatology area was great as was the hall leading to the Houses and the sorting hat!

The visit to Hagrid’s Hut was amazing – we had a lot of fun sitting in his BIG chair!

Also fun were Dolores Umbridge’s office and Harry’s cupboard under the stairs – both great photos ops!

If you’re a fan of the Harry Potter franchise like the K3 Sisters we met at Harry Potter: The Exhibition (below), you’ll have a great time at this walk-through museum of iconic costumes and props alongside recreations of sets and displays that allow you to interact with the exhibit through various magical challenges. The night we were there some of the interactive kiosks weren’t working so there was a slight wait, but it wasn’t too bad.

There are plenty of self photo opportunities throughout the 60-90 minute tour and also an official photo that’s taken which can be purchased at the end of the tour in the gift shop.
Harry Potter: The Exhibit is best be enjoyed by tweens and up. The multi-sensory experience and large screens may be a bit too much for those with special needs.
Tickets start at $34 for ages 13 and up, $24 for ages 3-12. Prices in the gift shop start at about $11 and go up to $70 (for a themed hoodie).
