What to plant for Spring in your garden and a few tips for your next trip to the Dallas Arboretum
We were planning a trip to the Dallas Arboretum for the Spring Blooms and the Artscape show this past weekend when I happened to catch a news brief on Friday morning. The Fox 4 reporter asked the senior director Jimmy Turner about what “heat-friendly” plants to plant now and he started laughing! Remember that it is only March and we could still be in for some cold weather. Now is still a good time to plant cool weather loving plants! Watch the interview here for his spring gardening tip.
I don’t think I have ever seen the Dallas Arboretum so beautiful. The cherry trees were amazing as were the tulips, daffodils, pansies and violas. It was a veritable rainbow of color in every direction. Here are some of our photos from our Saturday visit.
A few tips if you are planning a trip:
- Go early to get parking and not have to ride the shuttle bus. We arrived at 9:45 and just got one of the remaining spots.
- Take a picnic. We bought lunch at the Arboretum and it was delicious but pricey! Make sure to pack a blanket in case the tables are full.
- Pack extra water, sunscreen and a light jacket. The weather is changing quickly right now and we found we needed all of these!
- Buy tickets online or even better, buy a membership! We will pay for our membership in just two visits and we always go at least twice a year!
- Make sure you have plenty of space on your digital camera card, you will be taking LOTS of photos!
