Dedicated Storage Space for School Papers

It has been almost two months since school started and by now you probably have piles of school papers on your kitchen counter tops, dining table, or moving from place to place as you try to find them a permanent home.

Help has officially arrived. In my video below, I talk about creating a Holding Tank or dedicated storage space for your child’s papers. The location of the Holding Tank (one per child) should be close to where the papers enter the home and are processed. This could be in the kitchen, mudroom, garage, or living room, making sure that the tank is not so far away that the papers often do not make it to the holding area.

Since what he leaves under our tree each year takes up more space in my home then in his red bag, I wonder if I should hire Santa to organize toys when the Christmas season is over?!

Often when we are hired to organize living or work spaces, we find large numbers of CDs and DVDs. Traditionally our clients store them in CD towers, on bookshelves, underneath coffee tables, or piled in baskets in the corner of a room.

When I receive a phone call from a new client wanting organizing help, invariably the discussion leads to a confession of “I am overwhelmed by my kid’s school papers. They start on my kitchen counters or table and spread all over my home.” Other clients admit that they throw everything away.

Somewhere in between these two thought processes is where I would like our clients to exist. The chosen organizing solution must be simple and low maintenance; otherwise, it won’t be used.
