The Story of North Texas Kids

North Texas Kids is a division of Scissortail Publishing, LLC which started in the Summer of 2001. The original concept for North Texas Kids magazine comes from our good friend Jennifer Martin of Martinhouse Publishing and Boulder County Kids. Founder Dr. Minette Riordan saw the need for a similar resource in our area and, as the mother of two young children felt the personal need for a more intellectual creative outlet. North Texas Kids has continued to grow in it’s reach around the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex as more and more young families have settled in the area.

After 8 years as a print publication, Scissortail Publishing decided to go green! In early 2011, we converted North Texas Kids to a 100% digital online format that parents can access on a computer, smart phone or e-reader. We are excited about the new interactive format that includes audio, video and hyperlinks throughout the website.

We are still committed to bringing you the best parenting tips, resources, experts and information on events, parties, ideas, crafts and kids activities in the metroplex.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide families in North Texas with a guide to all of the resources available to them in the area, from education to entertainment. We strive to give our readership thoughtful, useful, and activity-based information in an easy-to-read format, and to provide it for free. North Texas Kids dedicates advertising and editorial space to supporting local non-profit organizations and events, either through article space, advertisements, or event listings. Finally, our mission is to be financially, environmentally, spiritually, and socially responsible towards our associates, our readers, and our community.
