The Story of Scissortail

North Texas Kids magazine is a division of Scissortail Publishing, LLC which started in the Summer of 2001. The original concept for North Texas Kids magazine comes from our good friend Jennifer Martin of Martinhouse Publishing and Boulder County Kids. Owner Minette Riordan saw the need for a similar resource in our area and, as the mother of two young children felt the personal need for a more intellectual creative outlet. North Texas Kids has continued to grow in it’s reach along with North Texas as more and more young families have settled in the area.

After 8 years as a print publication, Scissortail Publishing has decided to convert North Texas Kids magazine to a 100% digital format. We are excited about the new interactive format that includes audio, video and hyperlinks throughout the content. Make sure to check out our current issue!

In 2010, Scissortail Publishing took over management of Richardson Living magazine and we are thrilled to continue to help this local print magazine continue to thrive in the Richardosn area.

In 2011, we are pleased to announce a new partnership with Local Proud, a Richardson-based company that has created a novel coupon card and discount website. You can learn more about LocalProud.com by clicking here.

Finally, later in 2011, we will be launching our 2nd digital magazine, WEBB: Women Engaged in Building Business. Watch for more details about this exciting new addition to our publishing house.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide families in North Texas with a guide to all of the resources available to them in the area, from education to entertainment. We strive to give our readership thoughtful, useful, and activity-based information in an easy-to-read format, and to provide it for free. North Texas Kids dedicates a part of every publication to supporting local non-profit organizations and events, either through article space, advertisements, or event listings. Finally, our mission is to be financially, environmentally, spiritually, and socially responsible towards our associates, our readers, and our community.
