Leftover Halloween Candy Recipes: Snickers Blondies

Leftover Halloween Candy Recipes

Guest Post by Heather at KidsActivitiesBlog.com

Is that bowl of Halloween candy staring at you today?  Did your kids bring home more candy than they could possibly eat? Get creative and try this recipe for Snickers Blondies…you’ll use up some of those tasty Snickers candy bars!

Bringing kids into the kitchen creates the perfect time to bond & learn together.  Younger children can help chop the Snickers, measure & sift the dry ingredients, & help spread the batter in the pan.  Older children can follow this simple recipe themselves & create their own special dessert!

And the best part about cooking with your kids?  It seems to open the door for conversation…especially with older kids…when your hands are busy together, tweens & teens seem to open up.  I think that’s my favorite thing about bringing kids of all ages into the kitchen.  From big to little, there are so many warm fuzzy moments!

Is Your Family Overscheduled?

Overscheduled Child

Seek Balance with Kids Activities

by Kerrie McLoughlin

It makes my head spin to think about how overscheduled some families are these days: school, afterschool care, homework, dinner, sports or dance once a week, swim lessons or another activity twice a week, games, birthday parties and campouts on weekends. The range of extracurricular activities available to children today is mind-blowing, but of course we want our kids to have everything. But Jill Connors, mom of five, says, “I know friends whose kids are in school that are so scheduled that anytime they are home they are ‘bored.’”

So where’s the time for fort building, skateboarding, cops-and-robbers and other free activities that let a kid’s imagination run wild? Dad Jeff Pearlman is outraged by this overscheduling dilemma and wrote in a piece on CNN.com, “Kids are gifted with 18 years of childhood. … Yes, I want mine to do well in school, and learn the virtues of compassion and empathy and hard work. But I also aspire for them to jump on our trampoline until their legs sag from exhaustion, and ride their bikes up and down the street, … and chase down the ice cream man and watch in amazement as the pink petals fall from our cherry blossom tree.”

Halloween is the perfect time to get creative with your kids

Since I am a ‘crafty person’, it was only a matter of time before my girls joined in on the fun. My first grader learned to scrapbook at age 3. I remember her preschool teachers being so impressed with her ‘scissor skills’. Over the years, as my passion for creating has grown, the girls have always been right there with me. Whether it is being thrifty at Goodwill or making modpodge frames, my girls aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty!

In the midst of my ‘home décor- type’ crafting, I always like to do some crafts that are just for kids too. And Halloween is the perfect time to get creative with your kids.  For inspiration, we found this great book at the library, “Fun to Make Crafts for Halloween”. You would be surprised at the number of ‘crafty’ books you can find in the youth section. And better yet—they are free!

How to Make After School Time Run Smoother

Finally! The baby is asleep. You tackle that pile of laundry that had been staring at you all day long and rush to finish the dishes in the sink. You sit and relax for a minute, maybe even read five pages of book if you’re lucky. Or maybe you’ll finally get to take that shower you’ve been dreaming of.  Whatever you decide, decide quick. You only have so much time until…the kids get home from school.

How to Throw the Best Halloween Party Ever

How to Throw the Best Halloween Party for Kids

Consider all the guests and their experience – If you have guests of varying ages, let’s say 3-year-olds to 10-year-olds, you’ll want to choose games that can be scaled down for the youngsters and made more challenging for the older kids. Often, party planners just plan separate events, but that fragments the group, and think of the parent who might have a child in each! By choosing simple games that keep the party centered, you’ll be able to ensure everyone, including the parents, have a good time!
