Here are 7 clever ideas for cute teacher gifts for the first day of school. I picked all of these because they are simple to make, affordable and thoughtful! I don’t know about you but back to school is a crazy time! Getting the kids back on a normal sleep schedule, getting them organized with school supplies, finding back packs and lunch boxes and so on makes that week before school a busy one! Yet the idea of sending our little ones off to kindergarten with a nice note of appreciation is such a lovely thought. And of course, an excuse to make something… let’s get crafty!
That smell in the air, crisp colored leaves, a cuddly sweater; FALL is almost here … Well, probably not quite for those of us in Texas, but FALL SPORTS registration is definitely upon us. It is time to register your child for the Fall sports season that will run September through November.
Most organizations have already started registering and will close registrations mid August. It is not too late to get your youth involved in an organized team sport. Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Football and Ice Hockey are among the most popular sports. Our friends at Plano Sports Authority feel there is no greater investment in our community’s youth than the development of character, fellowship and sportsmanship through sports.
Whether you have preschoolers or school-aged children you can get them involved in a team sport. The sense of structure, working with others (the team) and listening to someone other than their parent (coach) are all valuable lessons that they can learn playing a team sport.

I remember back to school shopping with my mom as clear as any childhood memory. Like many things from the way back machine, it was a rose-colored PG-rated experience, another thing from America’s kinder, gentle and long-gone past.
My mother and I always shopped at the May Company for my school wardrobe. Together we’d pick out a couple pair of jeans and pants, couple tops, skirts, a couple of dresses for church and a few pairs of shoes. It was all relatively basic clothing, no “fashionista” here. My options consisted of what color T-shirts I wanted, as opposed to today’s lipstick wearing little ones. Though I’m all for letting kids experiment with clothing, buying children’s clothes for school has changed dramatically. The choices can be overwhelming so as a public service I’ve developed some rules to follow when back-to-school shopping, to help steer parents clear from “7 going on 22 Day” at school.
With record-setting heat blanketing significant portions of the country for much of this summer, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Safe Kids Worldwide are highlighting the dangers of child heatstroke in hot cars and urging parents and caregivers to think, “Where’s baby? Look before you lock,” the primary message in NHTSA’s heatstroke public education campaign.
Data from the San Francisco State University Department of Geosciences show at least 24 children have died due to heatstroke already in 2013 – medically termed “hyperthermia.”
