A beautiful young Princess Mermaid, Ariel, longs for a life on land with her beloved Prince Eric. The evil Octopus, Ursula, is only to willing to help her, but the cost may prove to be too great for Ariel and the underwater kingdom. Directed by PCT’s Cassidy Crown, The Little Mermaid Jr is playing at the Plano Children’s Theatre from July 27th through August 4th.

I recently moved to Santa Barbara, CA and am enjoying the bounty of fresh fruit and vegetables. This past weekend, my son and I had the opportunity to go pick apricots. Super fun and picked way too many as they were falling off the trees into our bucket. We decided to make a gluten free apricot crumble with them. It was so good, I think we will make another one on July 4th (yes, we picked a lot of apricots.)

As we walked in to the lobby of the Dallas Children’s Theater for opening night of Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters, we saw a crowd gathered around a group of men playing a variety of African drums and a couple of ladies energetically dancing to the primal sounding drum beats. Right away, we knew this was going to be a special night at DCT!
The Fourth of July is drawing near and barbeque preparations are underway. Fireworks are a traditional part of Independence Day celebrations, but they can also be dangerous. Sadly, children and teens are too often hurt by fireworks. So, before the celebration begins, get your EyeSmart fireworks safety tips from the Texas Ophthalmological Association.
Of the 9,000 fireworks-related injuries each year, 21 percent are eye injuries and more than half of the victims are young children or teenagers.
With a time of 23:07.23, Jamie Rogers, a five-year breast cancer survivor, beamed as she clenched the Top Survivor running time on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the 22nd Annual Susan G. Komen North Texas Plano Race for the Cure®. Jamie shared, “When my doctor first found the lump, I was just 27. My doctor didn’t believe the lump was any big deal, but wanted me to get it checked anyway. The radiologist was convinced the lump was not cancer, and proposed three options: don’t do anything, come back in 6 months to check progression, or biopsy. I am so glad I chose to biopsy the lump because if had I waited, my stage 1 diagnosis could have been much worse. Early detection is key to saving lives.”
