Dallas Teen wins UNICEF art contest

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF announced the winners of the 2012 Pier 1 Imports®/UNICEF greeting card contest. The theme this year is “Peace on Earth.” Kristen Fontana, age 12, from Staten Island, New York, received the Grand Prize Award for her artwork, which will be reproduced as an official UNICEF greeting card and sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores across the country during the 2012 holiday season. This year’s U.S. Fan’s Choice Award was presented to Mitali Mathur, age 14, from Dallas, Texas.

You’d think that once a family got home with their neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) baby they would be home free, right? After all, their baby isn’t hooked up to multiple monitors, doesn’t have IVs sticking out of every part of its body, and the parents don’t have to travel to and from the hospital every day anymore. My Family’s Favorite Memorial Day Potluck Menu

I love Memorial Day and for many years we hosted a pool party and barbecue at our home. The pool is just getting warm enough, it’s not too terribly hot out yet and everyone is ready for the beginning of summer!

It’s fun to do a potluck menu. We always do the barbecue and ask everyone to bring one of the other dishes to share.
